I'm Beth and I'm excited to welcome you to the wonderful world of story mixing with Magical Story Jars.
I'm a mum to two fantastic and energetic children and one of our favourite things to do together is make up our own entertaining and unforgettable stories! In fact, it was our family’s love of stories that resulted in the creation of our story jars.
As the founder of Magical Story Jars, I’ve drawn upon my own experience as a mum with a love for children’s stories and used it to pour an immense amount of passion and energy into my award-winning business. Each jar contains a collection of story ingredients, including the all important ‘magic dust’, to bring the stories to life, along with diverse story characters, exciting settings and problematic plots. All of these were created with input from children, teachers and families with the purpose of igniting the imaginations of young story makers across the kingdom.
Over the past seven years, I've helped thousands of children unleash their inner writers at museums, festivals, events and schools. Watching their faces light up as even the most reluctant of writers become absorbed in writing stories using Magical Story Jars has to be the most rewarding part of the job.
I also love writing bespoke stories for Magical Story Jars customers, tailoring each adventure to their unique purpose and interests. In addition to writing the content of our Magical Story Jars and story writing notebooks, learning alongside the children has continued to be an effective and enjoyable part of my journey. To date, I've enjoyed taking courses on creative writing, oral story making and writing books for children, alongside training for working with children with SEN, children’s mental health and safeguarding. Being a dyslexic thinker myself has made me even more determined to help others to understand some of the superpowers that come with dyslexia.
I've been a judge for the BBC 500 Words story writing competition numerous times. It's always fascinating to delve into the imaginative worlds thought up by young writers by reading stories straight from their amazing imaginations. I've also had the opportunity to talk about story creation on BBC Radio Lancashire and I’ve had numerous articles published in the press, including Juno magazine, Primary Times, Junior magazine and Lancashire Life.
I strongly believe in nurturing creativity in children, particularly during this technological age. We’re all born with fantastic imaginations, our Magical Story Jars creative writing sessions help to harness them, along with the addition of a good dollop of magic dust to help with self-belief. That's why I'm always looking for new and hands on ways to help immerse children in the world of stories. It's very rewarding to see my little jars of magic improving literacy and creating a love of stories for so many children.
So that's a bit about what I get up to as Chief Story Maker at Magical Story Jars. If you’d like to have a chat about how a creative writing workshop could help ignite imaginations in your class, then get in touch using the form at the bottom of the page here and we can have a quick chat.
