Keep the Kids Busy Over Easter With Our Latest Comic Activity
No sooner have the kids been back at school and now the little darlings are off again! If you’re looking to keep them occupied over half term and you want that learning, fun and creativity to carry on without them even realising, then look no further!
Here at Magical Story Jars our kids love making comics. The story cards from Magical Story Jars are perfect for not only igniting imaginations but providing the essential ingredients for a great comic. Use the story combination below from our adventure themed Magical Story Jar to get those creative juices flowing and create an awsomerific comic about the Easter Bunny whose recipe went wrong and turned all the eggs yolky inside!
Start by drawing out a simple six panel comic strip with three boxes on top of another three boxes. Each box is called a panel.
Comics are essentially short stories. They need a plot, a story with a beginning, a middle and an end. Before you write your comic, jot down what each panel will have in it.
Beginning (the first panel) – introduce the main characters. How did the octopus and the superhero meet the bunny?
Middle – address the problem with action and excitement. How did they get the chocolate egg recipe right and create new eggs?
End (the last panel) – how did the octopus and the bunny feel once the problem had been resolved and new chocolate eggs were made minus all that gooey, sloppy yolk!

Your mini story maker might want to tackle this activity in a variety of ways dependent on their preferences and age. Younger children will most definitely need help creating their comic plan, in fact they might even want to skip that stage completely and dive straight to creating their comic. I found going with the flow and enjoying their enthusiasm worked a treat. Older story makers might want to spend a lot of time planning out their comic, they might want to add a baddy or a plot twist to their comic, or perhaps they’ll put a lot of work into getting their illustrations just right.
This activity is ideal for grown-ups too! I made comics with my kids and we all had really good fun sat around the table together deciding who would save the day and help to get the Easter Bunnies chocolate eggs back on track. However you and your family do it, be sure to make it your own and have fun.
