It was a cold evening when Monty the mouse left his home in the tree in the enchanted forest. The snow had coated the ground and was glistening white, a clear sign that Christmas was coming. Monty wanted to feel excited about Christmas, but he could only feel sad because he had no one to spend it with. The other mice didn’t want to be friends with him because he had two arms but three legs and the rest of them only had two arms and two legs. Monty sat outside his tree eating some of his favourite cheese when he found a piece of paper. He looked at it and saw a list with lots of children’s names. All of a sudden he could hear bells ringing and saw a man dressed in red, looking very worried.
‘Where is it Prancer?’ said the man.
Monty decided to take a closer look and saw the man, a sleigh and eight reindeer! The reindeer all looked very worried too, especially the one right at the front with the big red nose.
‘Excuse me Sir?’
The man looked around, hearing Monty’s squeaky voice.
‘Down here Sir’ Monty said, waving up at the man.
‘Oh dear, hello there sorry I didn’t see you’ said the tall man.
Monty could now see his long white beard over his round belly.
‘Is everything okay Sir?’ Monty asked the man in red.
‘Why, not really. I seem to have lost my list you see, and it is very important as tonight is Christmas Eve and I must set off while all the children are asleep!’
‘A list?’ Monty asked.
‘Yes my Naughty and Nice list, it has lots of children’s names on it, I don’t suppose you’ve seen it have you?’
Monty lifted the list up ‘Is this it?’
‘Yes! That is it! Thank you so much, what is your name?’
‘It’s Monty, Sir.’
‘Well Monty, it’s a pleasure to meet you, my name is Santa Claus, and it seems you have saved my job tonight by finding that list.’ Santa said with a chuckle.
‘It’s not a problem Santa, I hope you get to all the children in time.’ Monty went to walk back to his tree, to spend Christmas Eve alone.
‘Monty’ shouted Santa.
Monty turned around ‘Yes Sir?’
‘Well I don’t suppose you would like to come along and help us deliver the presents would you? I could use the extra help. And your three legs seem to get you around a lot faster than the other mice’
Monty felt so happy he couldn’t stop the smile on his face.
‘I’d love to Santa, thank you.’
He climbed aboard the Sleigh, right next to Santa and off they flew.
